Desenzano del Garda is the most populous town among all those bordering Lake Garda; it is also the second most populated town in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. It has a territorial area of sixty square kilometres and is located in the southern part of the lake.The name Desenzano may derive from the name of a rich man, Decentius, owner of a prestigious villa built in the 4th century that can still be visited and is known as the Villa Romana. Desenzano del Garda, a famous and enchanting resort on Lake Garda, is today a popular tourist destination. It has an artistic, historical and archaeological heritage that has its roots in Roman times.
It is a lively and active town in all seasons. The main internal road, which runs parallel to the lakeside promenade and crosses the main squares, offers a wide and varied range of restaurants, shops and bars.
