Sirmione is partly situated on a peninsula that stretches about 4 km along the lower coast of Lake Garda in the province of Brescia.
It is known as ‘the pearl of islands and peninsulas’ due to its beauty and artistic heritage, which includes the Grotte di Catullo (Catullus Caves), the splendid remains of a grandiose Roman villa that have become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is also the Rocca Scaligera and the church of S. Pietro in Mavino, which dates back to the 8th century.
From the Rocca Scaligera, past the famous Lido delle Bionde, there is the beautiful and well-known Giamaica Beach. There are numerous boat and bus connections to the nearby towns of Desenzano and Peschiera. During the summer period, it is possible to hire boats to tour the lake and visit neighboring towns. Numerous events such as cultural exhibitions and concerts are organised throughout the year.
Easily accessible: Highway A4 Turin/Venice exit Sirmione and then follow the road signs in the direction of Sirmione.
By train: The nearest railway station is Desenzano, which is a few km from Sirmione.
